Eskozia La Brava | Does Misfiring Matter?

I took the decision to change from my trusty 3-5-2 to a 4-1-2-3 in the second half of my fifth season in charge of Eibar on FM20 and it paid off. We climbed from 9th to 5th to qualify for the Europa League again, actually just missing out on Champions League qualification by a point in the end.

I was excited going into my sixth season. The tactical tweak had shown some really promising signs so far and it was a chance to get the team even more familiar with it with a whole season of playing that way. Vamos…

Eskozia La Brava | My 4-1-2-3 Tactic

I initially planned a post focusing on my 3-5-2/5-3-2 tactic which had been part of our Furia identity for four and a half seasons. The key word there being “had”. After our difficult first half of the season I came to the decision to move away from my trusted tactic.

It served me well and had troubled our LaLiga competitors but it was time for a change. Things had gotten a bit stale, I wanted to see us do something different going forward, to introduce a bit of variation in our attacking play. Enter a classic 4-1-2-3.

Eskozia La Brava | Big Money Signings

In my fourth season with Eibar on FM20 we narrowly missed out on going one position better in the league compared to the season before. A poor performance on matchday 38 saw Atleti pip us to 3rd in the LaLiga table. That being said, I would’ve snapped your hand off to qualify for the Champions League for a second consecutive season. This plucky little club continues to punch above its weight.

I want to see us continue to punch above our weight and that’s why ahead of my fifth season in charge I decided to splash a little bit more cash than I had done in previous seasons…

FM20 Training – My Approach

This post first appeared in Issue Two of Latte Quarterly, a quarterly Football Manager e-magazine created by FMGrasshopper, AccordingtoFM, FMAdventure and myself. I’d thoroughly recommend you download all available issues and dive in for a read.

“How do I want my team to play?”

It’s probably the most important question us Football Managers will ask ourselves. Some find it difficult to answer. We want to set out to win matches obviously but it’s getting to that point that is often tricky. Tactics are obviously vital, the quality of the players slotting in to each of those roles in the tactic are equally as important. What about the work on the training pitch?

Eskozia La Brava | Revolución de Furia

So far in my time at Eibar we’ve finished 5th, 6th and 4th. At the halfway point of my fourth season we were sitting 4th in LaLiga, well placed to qualify for Europe again. Even that in itself is a huge achievement for this little club from the Basque Country. All the board are expecting is that we finish in the top half. I think we might manage that, just.

To help us over the line I made a last minute marquee loan signing. Find out who it was by reading on. If you make it to the end of the post you’ll also be reading about the changes in the squad in regards to the Furia style I wanted to instil in the squad.

Eskozia La Brava | The Three Pals

We were there to capitalise in my third season in charge of Eibar on FM20. Valencia dropped like a stone out of the top four and our steady form enabled us to grab fourth and qualify for the Champions League for the first time. A quite incredible achievement for little old Eibar.

The 2022/23 season is a strange one as I’m sure most of you will know by now. You’ve got the 2022 World Cup to contend with halfway through it, meaning a shorter first half of the season and a mass of matches squeezed into the second. Here’s how that first half of the season played out.

Eskozia La Brava | What Kind Of Club Are We?

Last time out a really good last few months of the season propelled us to a 6th place finish and Europa League football again for this coming season. Finishing 5th and 6th in my first two seasons at the club isn’t too bad at all. We’re punching well above our weight, our infrastructure is well below the standard that a La Liga club competing in Europe should have.

Heading into my third season I began to question what kind of club we actually are?
