I write this post for my own benefit. My memory of things I did on past games is useless, so I can look back at these posts in years gone by and easily remember what I did on each version of Football Manager.

FM17 Summary

Ahead of FM17 last year, I wrote my summary of my year on FM16. So ahead of FM18, here’s my FM17 summary post! I said it last year, and I’ll say it again, this post is mainly for me. My memory when it comes to Football Manager, and Championship Manager before it, is utterly useless. You hear so many people on Twitter or on podcasts recalling great tales of brilliant saves they’ve had over the years. Only big things stick out for me as I mentioned in last year’s post, so going forward I hope that documenting my year of playing the game in a format like this will help me to better remember what I’ve done when I look back.

Becoming A Mountain: Meet the Club – HK

If you like you can call the club Handknatteiksfélag Kópavogs, but it’s up to you. I think I’ll refer to it as HK.


So here we are. My first managerial job. My career has starting in Iceland’s 2nd Division with semi-professional HK. If you don’t understand the title of my save, ‘Becoming A Mountain’, it’s reference to Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson – The Mountain from Game of Thrones and World’s Strongest Man competitor from Iceland – we’re taking little HK to be an Icelandic Giant, or ‘Mountain’.

I can give up this game whenever I like, I just don’t want to yet

A simple Google search on the term ‘Football Manager addiction’ brings up over 900,000 results. Hell, there’s even been a book written on the subject. We’ve all heard the stories of dressing in suits for cup finals, shaking hands with the door knob before a match and the game we all love causing divorces or even saving people’s lives (read this post if you haven’t already). ‘Football Manager Stole My Life’ scratched the surface and shared stories to a wider audience, but I wanted to dig deeper. Yes, we all say we’re addicted to Football Manager, but are we really?
